I grew up in Brazil and moved to the United States before college. In June 2026, I visited my former school to talk with students about the transition: a different academic system, more independence, and building a life in the U.S.

Outside work

Since age six
My dad taught me chess when I was six. For years, he also beat me at it. Around thirteen, I started studying almost every night: openings, tactics, and how to think through a position. Eventually I could beat him, and our games became a lot more competitive.
Since freshman year
I started classical guitar during freshman year of college. I’m self-taught and have practiced seriously since then. I’ve been learning pieces by Tárrega and Carcassi, and adapting keyboard music by Erik Satie and J. S. Bach.
More recently, I started learning piano.
Growing up in Brazil gave me an appreciation for good coffee. I enjoy specialty coffee and learning how origin, roasting, and brewing change the cup.
On the court
I started tennis in college, after asking a friend to teach me. I liked it immediately. My friends had played throughout high school, so for a while I practiced alone on empty courts, working on serves, forehands, and slices. Eventually, our games became more evenly matched.
I also enjoy playing volleyball.
